The mineral borax, where boron is found, has been known about for hundreds of years. In fact, the name “boron” comes from the arabic word “buraq” and persian word “burah”, both are their respective language’s word for borax.
Boron was discovered by two groups of scientists at about the same time in 1808. British Sir Humphry Davy, and the French duo Joseph-Louis Gay-Lussac and Louis Jaques Thenard both isolated boron from boric acid by adding magnesium or sodium.
